91Ӱ recommended as preferred contractor to deliver new Shepparton Art Museum

1st March, 2019

91Ӱ Constructions has been recommended as preferred contractor by the Greater Shepparton City Council to deliver the new Shepparton Art Museum (SAM).

Designed by architects , the new Shepparton Art Museum (SAM) will be a five-storey building housing the Museum, Visitor Centre, and the Kaiela Art Gallery and Studio. The 5,300m2 building also houses a café and event space, with a roof top viewing deck.

The design adopts a 33m x 33m cube like form located on the south-eastern corner of Victoria Park Lake. Four L-shaped plates, each of different heights, make up the building’s façade. Each plate is of a different metallic finish; low sheen zinc to the southern approach; matt soft charcoal above the entry to SAM on Wyndham Street; metallic mid-grey facing the park; and rich ochre-red corten steel facing the lake and river plain.

SAM continues 91Ӱ's strong track record of delivering high quality social infrastructure in regional Victoria.

“The field of applicants to undertake the construction of the new SAM was outstanding. We are excited to be able to award this significant opportunity to 91Ӱ Constructions who have been responsible for such iconic buildings as the $45 million Geelong Library and Heritage Centre, Geelong Performing Arts Centre Redevelopment (Stage 2) and $100 million Ballarat GovHub”, explains Greater Shepparton Mayor, Cr Kim O’Keeffe. “This is the most significant and bold building that Council has invested in, and we have every confidence that 91Ӱ Constructions will do the design justice.”

“91Ӱ are very excited to be appointed to construct this unique and special project with Greater Shepparton City Council’, explains 91Ӱ Constructions Director, Geoff Purcell.  “At 91Ӱ, we have a long and successful history of delivering tailor-made, complex and demanding building projects throughout Victoria and are very much looking forward to making the new SAM vision a reality.”
